CONSECRATION OF ASSISTANT BISHOP IN THE ANGLICAN CHURCH OF KENYA,

DIOCESE OF BONDO, HELD ON SATURDAY 27TH MARCH, 2021 The Consecration of the assistant of Bondo was preceded by retreat led by the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Nairobi; The Rt. Rev’d Joel Waweru. The Retreat commenced on Wednesday 24 -26 March, 2020 with rehearsals at St. Michael and All Angels Cathedral Bondo on 26 March,2022. The Service was led by the Rt. Rev’d George Mechumo, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Bungoma. The House of Bishops meeting held on 11 March,2021 unanimously endorsed the appointment of the Assistant Bishop and the consequent consecration. The assistant Bishop will be seconded to St. Paul’s University where she is a senior lecturer. The duties of the Assistant Bishop‘s will be: Training and continuous training of clergy in the Diocese Continuous training of lay readers in the Diocese including lay readers, Youth leaders, women leaders, KAMA and Parish Council. Linkages with other potential partners both locally and internationally Women ministry in the Church Gender issues including but not limited to: – Boy and Girl Child empowerment Church – Gender based violence The Rt. Rev’d Dr. Emilly Onyango is among the few women who in the recent days have been appointed to senior positions in the Anglican Church. Bishop Dr. Onyango is among the longest serving female clergy and also Canon of the Church in the Diocese of Bondo. This Consecration is a defining moment for the Anglican Diocese of Bondo as barriers in leadership have been broken having appointed the first female Bishop in the Anglican Church of Kenya. In her acceptance speech the Rt. Rev’d Dr. Emilly highlighted the challenges she faced at ordination, being a young single lady many  never saw her potential of raising a family. The Family The history lecturer believes in making history and being pat of history. In her presentation at the Provincial Clergy conference held at Kabarak University she foretold of the need of having a “purple blouse” in the house of Bishop’s. Appointment of the Rev’d Canon Dr. Emily Awino Onyango as an Assistant Bishop

The Anglican Diocese of Bondo Special Synod held on 12 January, 2021 unanimously endorsed the appointment of the Rev’d Canon Dr. Emily Awino Onyango as an Assistant Bishop. Members during the Special Synod The Synod was preceded by Holy Communion service led by the Bishop the Rt. Rev’d Prof. David H. Kodia. In attendance were Mama Janepher Kodia Mother’s Union President, Bondo Diocese and Mama Jenipher Wasonga. Holy Communion service preceding the Special Synod, led by the Bishop the Rt. Rev’d Dr. Joseph Otieno Wasonga, Bishop Emeritus Diocese of  Maseno West drawn from Matthew 9: 35-37. He urged Christians to pray to the Lord of Harvest for more workers with the right skills, resources and spirit to fulfill his purposes as the harvest is plentiful but with few workers. The Rt. The 8th Ordinary Session Of Synod – 14th August 2020

The Diocese of Bondo held the 8 Ordinary session of Synod on 14 August, 2020 at St. Michaels and All Angels Cathedral Bondo. In the midst of the Corona Virus pandemic the Synod Session was well attended with about 20 members participating through zoom and over 150 physically present. The 8th Ordinary session of Synod The Bishop’s charge drawn from Acts 3:1-10 bringing forth the story of the beggar who had lost hope in life. A man who lost a sense of worth and did not believe in his own potential to do his own things. The Synod in one accord resolved to be the voice of the hopeless in the society in the midst of the Covid 19 pandemic. The Rt. Rev. Prof. David H. Kodia The Diocese of Bondo at this time has chosen to rise up and walk, offering messages of hope to the weak. We have the potential to build a viable Diocese that will forever remain a beacon of Hope to our children and great grand children. SUPPORT DURING THE COVID 19 The Synod acknowledges the support offered by various institutions who offered support and heeded to the call to make donations both in cash and kind. Some of the partners included: ·       Trinity Wall street ·       Diocese of Sheffield ·       Brookside Dairies ·       The Kenya Pipeline ·       Lions Club ·       ADS Nyanza ·       Individual Christians from the Diocese of Bondo   MAJOR STRIDES The synod also acknowledges the major strides the diocese has made by the grace of God for the last three years. ·       The acquisition of title deeds for most of our churches and diocesan properties. This is a very important ·       stewardship role to which we have been called to exercise. ·       Purchase of land for the construction of new cathedral at a cost of Ksh. 4.8 m ·       The mobilization of funds for the completion of the synod plaza to the tune of about 70 million ·       Formation of diocesan relief services that has helped in resource mobilization for relief services in the diocese ·       Networking with global partners including the diocese of Sheffield in the UK, Episcopal church ·       Revamping the ministry of MOTHERS UNION, KAMA, KAYO and Children departments.   SYNOD PLAZA FUNDRAISING Mobilization for the Plaza fundraising is ongoing. To this end we are making a passionate appeal to raise at least KSH. 30M to enable us purchase two lifts by November this year and to start a donation of Cement Project Initiative (CPI) that is open to all members to participate in raising the required 3580 bags of cement and 782 tons of sand for interior and exterior plaster works. We thank God for those who have already pledged to give cement for so far, we have received pledges of 1,128 bags and 100 tons of sand. We appeal to well-wishers and friends to continue participating in the cement project initiative.

The Bishop in his sermon challenged Christians to embrace and support the clergy in their ministry for the betterment the Church. The Bishop further challenged the clergy to take up their role as shepherds assigned by God.

Thanksgiving service on 23rd September 2018

The Thanksgiving service took place on Sunday 23rd September 2018. The Chief guest was  H.E. Hon Moody Awori, the former Vice President of Kenya H.E. September 2018 Major Events

Bishop’s Luncheon and fundraising on 15th September, 2018 at ACK Church House Compound, Sinapanga (Diocesan Headquarters) Diocesan Thanksgiving service on 23rd September 2018, Hon Dr. Moody Awori, the former Vice President of Kenya as Chief Guest. Sustainability of our Diocese has remained our top agenda among other Episcopal responsibilities. Therefore, completion of the Plaza is our priority, a project which when accomplished will help the church mitigate the deficit in her budget and also reducing the financial burden on Christians. Synod Plaza under construction Several institutions have shown great interest in the building giving us the assurance that once completed the Diocese will be in a position to meet all its obligations with minimal strains. In order to achieve this mobilization of funds is underway. The Bishop’s Luncheon cum fundraising took place on 15th September, 2018 at ACK Church House Compound, Sinapanga (Diocesan Headquarters) an occasion where we raised funds in preparations for our Thanksgiving service on 23rd September 2018 with H.E. Hon Moody Awori, the former Vice President of Kenya as Chief Guest. Be part of us. Walk with us. Pray with us and share with us God’s blessings for the glory of His name.
