The Rt. Rev’d Dr. Emilly Onyango is among the few women who in the recent days have been appointed to senior positions in the Anglican Church. Bishop Dr. Onyango is among the longest serving female clergy and also Canon of the Church in the Diocese of Bondo.
This Consecration is a defining moment for the Anglican Diocese of Bondo as barriers in leadership have been broken having appointed the first female Bishop in the Anglican Church of Kenya.
In her acceptance speech the Rt. Rev’d Dr. Emilly highlighted the challenges she faced at ordination, being a young single lady many never saw her potential of raising a family.
The history lecturer believes in making history and being pat of history. In her presentation at the Provincial Clergy conference held at Kabarak University she foretold of the need of having a “purple blouse” in the house of Bishop’s.
This has indeed come to pass by the grace of God.
