The Synod
This is the Supreme Council of the Anglican Church which meets once every three years. As known worldwide through Anglican Communion, Anglican Church is Episcopally led but Synodically governed.
The Diocese is governed by the Diocesan Synod, which is made up of:
- The Diocesan Bishop,
- Assistant Bishop,
- Parish Priests and
- Two lay representatives from each parish.
- Other members of the Synod include 5 members nominated by the Bishop or the Synod. The Nominated members include the Diocesan Chancellor.
The Synod has responsibility for policy and strategy development plan. It is supported by a number of Boards and Committees. The Standing Committee of the Synod which has the supervisory role on the decisions and deliberations of the Synod meets at least three times in a year.
Synod members are elected from 52 parishes of 160 congregations are charged with appointment of boards and committees among other activities held during the general convention.
The year 2017 Synod was on August 14-16 at Bishop Okullu College. It was very significant as it was the beginning for the new bishop to give his vision and implementation strategies for the diocese. For more details, see the News & Event section.
